About Ben Gardner Photography
I have been taking photographs since 2001 with a focus on wildlife and landscapes. My career as a professional ecologist allows me plenty of travel across much of the UK, witnessing a rich diversity of wildlife and habitats that can be found here.
I live with my beautiful wife Lorna near Oxford, in a quiet little village on the edge of the Chilterns.
I have a wealth of knowledge about the natural world with specific knowledge of native protected species which enables me to get some really close encounters. With local Red Kite numbers flourishing, Starling murmurations, a local winter stronghold for Short Eared Owl and some local specialist plants such as Chiltern Gentian and butterflies such as Chalk Hill Blue there is not really a reason to travel further afield, however I have a thirst for experiencing different habitats, climates and species so my travels take me all over.
I am predominantly a Nikon shooter, not for any particular technical reason but solely because I am a little larger than life, festively plump, curved at the edges or whatever else you want to call it and the Nikon just felt right in my big mits.
Somehow I manage to juggle my hectic career with my passion for photography with some of the results you can see here.
I have had my work published in Practical Photography and currently have some photos available from Cleeve Picture Framing (www.cleevepictureframing.co.uk), a small gallery in the cotswolds.
